OK, so it has been brought to my attention that my last entry might have been interpreted as Anti-US Soccer. I didn't mean to take any shots at our national team. I root for US soccer over any other team (England and Italy included). My point was just that we have not really defeated any top flight international teams with the exception of Portugal and Mexico in the past 4+ years. And my MAIN point was we should take in consideration how lucky we are to have an international team that is considered top 6 in the entire world. It is truly a global game with the most competition compared to any other sport. Baseball is predominately American (North/South/Central). Basketball is dominated by the United States (when we send our best players), South America, Western Europe, and Australia will occasionally turn in a respectable performance. These are all generalizations because random countries, like Italy, will have a miracle run in a tournament from time to time. However if you look at the past 2 soccer World Cups you will see teams from the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia competing and threatening to win it all. Anyways, I will give one of my loyal readers the last word, and he makes an excellent point:
David Klein: give us some credit. maybe if our best athletes weren’t playing point guard, wide receiver and centerfield, we'd have a couple world cups too
And here is a picture to please everyone that is not interested at all in what we have been talking about…

rankings
these rankings are based on tournaments, friendlies, ect....each event a team plays in is worth a certain amount of points...america has obviously played more games recently then other countries who are obviously better than us
